Facial Rejuvenation

Although wrinkles can signify wisdom, most people would rather not have them. So, what causes wrinkles? Skin ages all over the body and much more so, where there has been sun exposure. The changes brought on by sun damage include dryness or roughness, sagginess, skin growths such as liver spots, and wrinkles. Other reasons why we get wrinkles include the muscles around the face losing their tone, poor diet, poor digestion and circulation, and emotional or environmental stresses.
Most wrinkles appear on the parts of the body where sun exposure is greatest. The face, neck, the backs of the hands, and the tops of the forearms are especially hard hit. Wrinkles come in two categories: fine surface lines and deep furrows. Wrinkle treatments, including facial rejuvenation, are in general much more effective for fine lines. Deeper creases may require more aggressive techniques, such injection of fillers or plastic surgery. A couple of preventative steps that can be taken to help prevent wrinkles are protection from the sun and, if you smoke, stop smoking.
Facial rejuvenation using acupuncture improves overall skin and muscle tone while enhancing and increasing the elasticity of the skin. According to Chinese medicine, wrinkles begin internally from a weakness and imbalance of qi (pronounced “chee”). Qi circulates throughout the body within a series of pathways called meridians. Flowing through these pathways, qi provides nourishment, support, and energy to every cell, tissue, muscle, and organ. Acupuncture can reduce sign of aging by strengthening and stimulating the circulation of qi within the meridian pathways, especially those of the face.
On a physiological level, acupuncture has been shown to increase circulation of blood and lymph throughout the body. Increased blood flow can balance out skin color and can help to maintain healthy skin and muscle tone. By increasing lymph flow, buildup of noxious elements in the skin can be eliminated by the body. Acupuncture has also been proven to strengthen the immune system; and our skin (which is the largest organ in the body) is an essential part of our immune system.
Acupuncture also tightens pores, improves muscle tone and dermal contraction, increases collagen production and affects its distribution. Moisture in the skin and evenness of skin color will be balanced by increasing local circulation of blood and lymph to the face. Any stress that is evident in the face will be reduced.
Receiving acupuncture treatments for facial rejuvenation may erase as many as five to 15 years from the face, with results apparent after just a few treatments. Fine lines may be entirely eliminated and deeper wrinkles diminished. Bags under the eyes can be reduced, jowls firmed, puffiness eliminated, droopy eyelids lifted and double chins minimized. Other likely results may include moisturizing of the skin with increased local circulation of blood and lymph to the face; increased collagen production, improved muscle tone, and dermal contraction; the tightening of the pores; the brightening of the eyes; improving of hormonal balance to help reduce or eliminate acne; and the reduction of stress in the face
Acupuncture treatments may be combined with exercise and acupressure in order to maximize results.  Before using drugs or surgery to improve your appearance, consider acupuncture.  It is an effective, natural, safe, drug-free and painless alternative.
