Benefits Of Breast Reduction Surgery

Large breasts have a significant impact on women’s lives, and reduction surgery offers real medical and psychological benefits to these women.
Breast reduction surgery, also known as reduction mammaplasty, is a procedure used to remove excess fat, glandular tissue, and skin from the breasts. Many women with large breasts choose to have breast reduction surgery to alleviate discomfort or to achieve a breast size in proportion with their body. Breast reduction surgery also helps improve ones self-image and self-confidence, as well as ones ability to participate in physical activities.
Women with large breast tend to suffer from chronic back, neck, and shoulder pain. The large breast mass lying in front of the body’s normal center of gravity tends to lead to a poor posture. Deep grooves in the shoulders from bra strap pressure are not uncommon. Often, women with large breasts have difficulty fitting into bras and clothing. They may have pain limiting their daily activities. They tend to have difficulties with work. They may feel tired and worn out most of the time.  Some women may suffer from emotional problems such as depression and low self-esteem. Large breasts can make many women, especially adolescent girls, extremely self-conscious.
Also, it is not uncommon for some women to develop chronic wounds or a rash under their breasts.
Breast reduction surgery is not usually done for appearance only. It is done to relieve medical problems and physical discomforts caused by unusually large breasts. Multiple scientific studies have shown the benefits of breast reduction surgery. Health insurance plans commonly cover the procedure for women who suffer from the previously mentioned symptoms.

It is important to know that breast reduction surgery can reduce the size of the breasts and relieve the discomfort caused by very large breasts, but it cannot always create perfect breasts.
The breasts don’t usually achieve their final shape immediately after surgery. It takes up to six to nine months for everything to settle down. The scars from breast reduction surgery are initially noticeable.  However, they become less noticeable over time and may fade to thin white lines. The scars are limited to the lower part of the breast and therefore will not show under low-cut tops and bathing suits
It may take a while to adjust to the new look. Women who have undergone this procedure should give themselves, their families, and their friends time to adjust.
Breast reduction surgery has the highest patient satisfaction rate of any of the cosmetic procedures. Nearly every woman who has this procedure is pleased with the outcome. Most women report an immediate improvement in their symptoms after surgery.
Having a clear understanding of the facts and myths of breast reduction surgery results and recovery can help potential patients develop realistic expectations. As with any other surgical procedure, the best treatment needs to be tailored to the individual patient’s needs and conditions.  Given the variety of surgical techniques, a consultation with an informed and skillful plastic surgeon is highly recommended.
