Vascular Devastation Is Rampant In Our Community

According to the New England Journal of Medicine, the first treatment option offered to 67% of patients presenting to an emergency department with ischemic legs is amputation. At the Minimally Invasive Vascular Center we offer healthcare with a heart. Our goal is to prevent vascular devastation by providing in-depth vascular consultations, minimally invasive vascular surgery and comprehensive vascular education, timely recognition of symptoms and analysis of risk factors. Our Lead Surgeon, Dr. Jeffery Dormu, is Vascular Fellowship Trained and Board Certified. Trained Vascular Surgeons are the only physicians treating vascular disease today who can provide all the treatment options available.

Vascular screenings are one of the most effective ways to perform early diagnosis of vascular disease. Screenings are especially useful when performed on certain high-risk groups in the elderly population. People over the age of 50 are at risk for developing plaque in their arteries and therefore would have a greater chance of developing PVD, aneurysms and venous disease.

Other medical risks include:

•    Diabetes

•    High blood pressure

•    Smoking

•    High cholesterol

•    Family history of cardiovascular disease or circulatory problems

•    Obesity

Are you at risk for an abdominal aortic aneurysm? In certain groups of patients, the incidence of aeurysms are as high as 10%. Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) rupture is the third leading cause of sudden death in men over the age of 60 in the U.S. and more than one million people are living with an undiagnosed AAA. Most AAA’s can be detected through a simple, ultrasound screening. Because AAA often has no warning signs, a preventive screening is an effective way to detect a potentially life-threatening aneurysm early enough to take corrective action.

The screening test is quick and painless, involving a simple ultrasound on the abdomen, similar to a pregnancy ultrasound. In just a few minutes, the images produced will help us to determine if an AAA is present.

We offer FREE Vascular SCREENINGS at various MIVC locations throughout the DC Metro area. CALL 301-497-1590 to get screened today. Early detection can help to prevent the vascular devastation that is now rampant in our community.

We are available for Vascular Consultations and Treatments. Remember, a trained Vascular Surgeon can address all available treatment options and related complications.
