Acupuncture For Women’s Wellness

Today, women are doing more than ever. Many women are even serving in two, three, four or more roles. This lifestyle can take a toll, particularly on women’s health.

In Chinese medicine, pain and gynecological disorders arise when the blood and Qi (pronounced chee) are stuck and not flowing smoothly through the body. Physical and emotional stressors are the primary reasons for this stagnation. The goal is to relieve the stagnation and return the body back to homeostasis or balance.

Acupuncture and other East Asian modalities have been used to treat women’s conditions for many centuries. Gynecological conditions respond very well to acupuncture and Chinese medicine.

Menstrual problems: Dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, spotting, and abnormal vaginal bleeding. Acupuncture helps the blood flow more smoothly and may alleviate the cramps, headaches and other pains associated with menstruation.

Premenstrual Syndrome: Acupuncture can ease bloating, cramps, back pain, irritability, and breast tenderness.

Perimenopause and Menopause: Acupuncture and Chinese herbs are very effective for treating perimenopausal and menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, anxiety, insomnia, and heart palpitations.

PCOS: Some symptoms of PCOS are ovarian cysts, irregular or absent menstrual cycles, weight gain, facial and body hair growth and insulin resistance. Acupuncture will help regulate a woman’s cycle and hormones, assisting the body back to balance and easing the symptoms.

Endometriosis: Women diagnosed with endometriosis may experience severe cramping, heavy bleeding, constipation, abdominal swelling and pain, and if left untreated it may contribute to infertility. Acupuncture eases those symptoms and may prevent further surgeries or even a hysterectomy.

Infertility: Acupuncture focuses on the underlying imbalances causing the difficulty in conceiving. Many women (and men too) seek acupuncture for age-related fertility issues, irregular periods, endometriosis, PCOS, low sperm count, recurrent miscarriages, poor responder to the medication and more.

Pregnancy and Postpartum Support: Many women experience relief from morning sickness, headaches, insomnia, anxiety and body aches. Acupuncture may assist in turning a breech baby and inducing labor. After the birth, continued acupuncture treatments help a woman recover by building Qi and blood, increasing milk production and most commonly alleviating postpartum depression.

Acupuncture addresses all kinds of other gynecologic problems too such as frequent or urgent need to urinate, pain or pressure in pelvis that differs from menstrual cramps, and abnormal vaginal discharge.

The patient plays an active role in her wellness, which may include lifestyle changes. Another key factor is getting the right “dose” of acupuncture and recognizing that chronic conditions may take longer to resolve.

Consider acupuncture as a natural way to improve your quality of life and a safe option for managing your gynecological health, well being and vitality.
