Scared Of Acupuncture?

Acupuncture can be daunting to new patients and the thought of using needles may put them off to the process. But as like anything in life, you will never really know something works for you until you try it. Information and learning about the process can also help you understand if it is right for you.

How does it work?

You may already know that needles are inserted into the body during the process but do you know why? These needles are very tiny and you may initially feel a small prick on the skin but after a while you may not even notice at all. These needles are inserted on certain meridians or pathways into the body. These pathways are energy that flows through your body also known as Qi. These needles can be inserted through 350 points in the body.

Will it hurt?

You will typically lie down in a comfortable space while an acupuncturist will insert the needles. As mentioned before, the needles are so small and thin that once you get past the initial prick the rest can become quite relaxing. Many patients who use acupuncture routinely find that they look forward to the next treatment because the experience can be found to be calming and therapeutic.

How can it help me?

When the needles are inserted into the meridians where Qi is found, the process increases blood flow and triggers the body’s natural painkillers. It relieves discomfort associated with a variety of diseases and conditions, including:

Chemotherapy-induced and postoperative nausea and vomiting

Dental pain

Headaches, including tension headaches and migraines

Labor pain

Low back pain

Neck pain

Osteoarthritis

Menstrual cramps

Respiratory disorders, such as allergic rhinitis

Ultimately, acupuncture can be treatment that can help relieve distress or discomfort associated with many conditions. Contact an acupuncturist to learn more about how it can help you. You may even find yourself scheduling more treatments.
