Suffering From Hearing or Vision Loss?

Do you find yourself asking people to repeat what they say, because it sounds like they’re mumbling or talking too fast? Are you constantly turning up the volume of your television? Or, have you noticed a ringing in your ears? If so, you may be experiencing hearing loss.

Hearing loss is the third most common health problem in the U.S, and it can affect the quality of your life and relationships. About 48 million Americans have lost some hearing.

Advanced age is the most common cause of hearing loss. One out of three people age 65-74 has some level of hearing loss. After age 75, that goes up to one out of every two people. Illnesses such as heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes put ears at risk by interfering with the ears’ blood supply.

If you or someone you know might have a hearing loss, you are not alone. Statistics tell us that it takes the average person seven years from the time they think they have a hearing loss until the time they seek treatment. Don’t be a statistic. Seek treatment for your hearing loss.

Acupuncture and Hearing Loss

Sudden sensorineural hearing loss, commonly known as sudden deafness, occurs as an unexplained, rapid loss of hearing, either at once or over several days. This type of hearing loss is due to auditory nerve damage.

While research is still being conducted, studies have shown that acupuncture can be an effective solution for patients experiencing hearing loss of this nature. They suggest that the use of acupuncture in addition to drug therapy increases blood flow and the flow of oxygen to the ear, facilitating the recovery from nerve function.

Acupuncture and Vision Loss

Vision loss is another difficult condition, but if you are reading this then you probably do not have low vision. Perhaps you know someone who is struggling, so pass on this information.

Your eyes are a reflection of your overall health.  Illnesses such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease can be revealed in the eyes. Conditions such as glaucoma, optic neuritis or vision loss are often associated with systemic health problems.  It is this interconnection between your eyes and your health that acupuncture and oriental medicine can tap into and utilize to treat eye and vision problems.

Common eye problems treated with acupuncture include glaucoma, cataracts, chronic dry eyes, macular degeneration, optic neuritis, and optic atrophy.

What To Do

Don’t wait. See a doctor immediately. If you think acupuncture can help you, contact a certified acupuncturist that has experience in treating hearing and/or vision loss.
