BBL For Skin Care

There are so many “new and innovative” procedures out there in the non-invasive anti-aging arena. Where does one begin? This month let’s start with broad band light (BBL) treatments, which is an advanced form of intense pulse light (IPL) treatment. They are essentially the same – they both work by directing light energy into the skin, which is then converted to heat as it reaches its target.

The target can be pigment in the skin or hair, redness in blood vessels and even bacteria causing cystic acne. Once the heat reaches the target it then damages that particular tissue. Healing then begins, which causes collagen and elastin production, to plump and support the skin.

For over a decade , light based therapy has become a widely accepted and reliable method for the treatment of photodamaged skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and other signs of ageing. BBL is the latest and most advanced technology in light therapy that has set new standards for anti-aging and treating acne, with little to no downtime and exceptional long-term benefits.  Extensive studies and research have proven that regular BBL treatments not only prevent cellular aging, but also turn back the clock, causing the DNA expression of skin cells to revert back to a youthful and healthy state.

BBL is a highly advanced version of IPL. It is an extremely accurate and specific treatment method to treat the signs of aging and acne. In addition, the superior safety and efficacy of BBL technology in treating patients with darker skin types takes light based therapy to whole new level.

There is little risk of complications and down time with BBL. Also, the number of treatments to achieve the results you are looking for could be less. A good BBL machine in the hands of an experienced and knowledgeable provider can produce amazing results.

What to know prior to a BBL treatment:

Avoid sun exposure for four weeks prior to treatment

No use of sunless tanner for at least two weeks

Daily use of sunscreen (preferably SPF 50)

Use of antiviral medication if you get cold sores

What about after treatment?

Avoid heat exposure for 24 hours – hot showers, saunas, etc.

Sun avoidance and use of SPF 30+

Use of post-procedure recovery cream
