A Natural Approach To Menopause Relief

Inevitably there comes a time for every female when her body begins to change, and estrogen levels decrease. This time is referred to as menopause. Unfortunately, with the decrease in estrogen levels, some women may experience certain symptoms if their body struggles to adapt. Some common symptoms women going through menopause experience include hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, fatigue, mood swings, memory loss, decreased libido, joint pain and weight gain.

Menopause is not a time women look forward to, due to these potential symptoms and the negative affect that it can have on their lives. Fortunately, there are some natural ways to help decrease the symptoms experienced during menopause, if not completely eradicate any negative effects of menopause for a woman. One such way is through acupuncture and Chinese medicine.

When a woman loses estrogen, it can be like the body is experiencing a loss or malfunction in its innate “cooling system”. Acupuncture can help to stimulate the body’s own “cooling system”, to help reduce or stop symptoms such as hot flashes and irritability. Acupuncture does this by activating the parasympathetic nervous system of the body, which sends signals to various organs to help release hormones like estrogen and others that can help to “cool off” the body. Some researchers argue that acupuncture and Chinese herbs can help to keep or even increase estrogen levels in the body. At the very least, acupuncture can help the body optimally utilize the estrogen that it does have left.

Not only can acupuncture help efficiently utilize the estrogen left, but it can also directly help with the symptoms some women experience during menopause. For example, with weight gain, acupuncture can help to increase metabolism, improve digestion and bowel motility, and build energy. Acupuncture can also help to increase blood and lymphatic circulation, which can help ease aching joints, decrease areas of water retention and regulate areas of irregular body temperature. Acupuncture is also very effective at helping to regulate mood, by activating the release of neurotransmitters and hormones like serotonin into the bloodstream.

Whatever the symptoms a woman might be experiencing during menopause, acupuncture and Chinese medicine are an effective, safe and holistic way of treating any adverse symptoms and increasing the mood, sleep and overall life of the woman. There’s no need to continue to dread menopause.
