Are Uterine Fibroids Ruining Your Life? Non-Surgical Procedure to Get Your Life Back

Fibroids are muscular tumors that grow in the wall of theuterus(womb). Fibroids are almost always benign (not cancerous). Fibroids can grow as a single tumor, or there can be many of them in the uterus. They can be as small as an apple seed or as big as a grapefruit.

About 20-80% of women develop fibroids by the time they reach age 50. Fibroids are most common in women in their 40s and early 50s. Not all women with fibroids have symptoms. Women who do have symptoms often find fibroids hard to live with. Some have pain and heavy menstrual bleeding. Fibroids also can put pressure on the bladder, causing frequent urination, or the rectum, causing rectal pressure.

There are factors that can increase a woman's risk of developing fibroids.

Age.Fibroids become more common as women age, especially during the 30s and 40s through menopause.

Family history.Having a family member with fibroids increases your risk.

Ethnic origin.African-American women are more likely to develop fibroids than white women.

Obesity.Women who are overweight are at higher risk for fibroids.

Eating habits.Eating a lot of red meat and ham is linked with a higher risk of fibroids.

Though uterine fibroids are generally benign, they can cause pain and inconvenience for those suffering from them. In some cases, changes to one's lifestyle can lessen fibroid symptoms. Studies have shown that maintaining a healthy weight and regulating hormonal levels can help to stabilize the effects of uterine fibroids.

Yet when these measures prove ineffective in relieving significant fibroid complications, a fibroid expert may recommend uterine fibroid embolization. This fibroid treatment technique is not only extremely safe, but also highly successful.

What Is Uterine

Fibroid Embolization?

Uterine fibroid embolization is a non-surgical fibroid care option that disrupts the blood flow that the uterine arteries provide to uterine fibroids. The technique is carried out with a fluoroscope and catheter to administer minute particles to the uterine arteries, which subsequently obstruct the supply of further nutrients to nearby fibroid tissues. The procedure is performed by a physician known as an interventional radiologist.

Why Is Uterine Fibroid

Embolization a Preferred

Fibroid Treatment Option?

Uterine fibroid embolization is a highly safe and minimally invasive procedure for the swift remedy of fibroid symptoms. Complications from uterine fibroid embolization are rare, and the rate of success is enormous. Approximately nine in 10 women who undergo uterine fibroid embolization report a significant decrease in fibroid symptoms.

Are You a Candidate For Uterine Fibroid Embolization?

If you suffer from unrelenting uterine fibroid symptoms, you may be an eligible candidate for uterine fibroid embolization. However, fibroid experts stress that women who intend to become pregnant in the future may want to consider alternative treatment options, as the effects of uterine fibroid embolization on the uterus are not yet fully known. Before undergoing this or any other fibroid treatment procedure, discuss your concerns and expectations with a fibroid expert or an interventional radiologist.
