Chelation Therapy For a Healthier You

Did you know heavy metals like: lead, mercury, nickel and cadmium are all around us? They are in the air we breathe, the water we drink, hygiene products, medications and dental materials. The human body cannot easily get rid of heavy metals, which results in them accumulating in a variety of body tissues including bone tissue, blood, organs and even in the nervous system.

As heavy metals accumulate in the body they can adversely affect the body’s chemistry and mechanics by substituting essential minerals, destroying cell membranes and disrupting the cell’s ability to function and communicate. In turn, damaging atoms causing oxidation, degeneration and decreased energy production on a cellular level.

Chelation therapy has been used by practitioners for over 40 years to treat lead poisoning and heavy metal exposure. It is a medical procedure where a practitioner introduces a chelating agent (orally or intravenously) which then binds to heavy metals and then excretes them from the patient’s body.

Chelating agents such as vitamin C and ethyldiaminetetracetic acid (EDTA) are used as well. This therapy requires an integrative approach with nutritional counseling to avoid chelating agents causing nutritional deficiencies as they can bind with essential minerals. When performed in conjunction, chelation therapy provides various benefits such as:

Reduced Fatigue: Toxins and heavy metals present in the body can make you feel tired both physically and mentally. Removing these toxins and heavy metals can restore your energy and increase your energy and concentration levels.

Lower Risk of Heart Attack and Stroke: Chelation therapy has been shown to reduce scar tissue and plaque in arteries, lowering blood pressure and reducing risk of heart attack and stroke. According to a National Institutes of Health sponsored study there is a “modest reduction in cardiovascular events” as a result of chelation therapy.

Reduce Pain and Swelling: EDTA used in chelation therapy has been shown to act as an antioxidant, repairing damage done by oxygen ions and other free radicals which reduce inflammation and the pain associated with it.

May Limit Symptoms Related to Alzheimer’s Disease: One of the main causes of the onset of Alzheimer’s is plaque which lead doctors to hypothesis that chelation therapy could delay the onset or limit symptoms of the disease, as it removes plaque in arteries. A 2003 study and editorial in the Archives of Neurology pointed to chelation therapy as a viable treatment for patients suffering from Alzheimer’s.
