Ayurveda For Women

Many women are caregivers, and do not take care of themselves as much as they take care of their loved ones. Women are nurturers, loving and caring, however women need to take care of themselves too.

A lot of women work jobs, come home and prepare meals, do laundry, help kids with homework, dote on their husbands, and are involved in activities outside of the home, such as Bible study, choir practice or other types of meetings. This routine starts over the next day and continues for weeks, months and years.

We may start to feel uncomfortable in our bodies. Headaches, backaches, cramps, insomnia, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and other conditions may manifest. Our skin changes, becomes dry and may develop rashes; your hair may start to fall out; wrinkles show premature aging; and we may develop other symptoms.

Women are so busy being a woman, they may not be conscious of their own needs until they begin to spiral out of control.

Fortunately, times are changing and many women are beginning to take control of their own lives and realize they need to take better care of themselves. Women are beginning to eat healthier, rest more, take yoga, walk, run, spin, dance and meditate to enhance the quality of their lives.

Other healing systems that may benefit women in particular are massage, reflexology, reiki and Ayurveda. Ayurveda is a natural healing system from India dating back 5,000 years. It is the science of natural healing.

Abhyanga is an Ayurvedic energy massage, which utilizes medicated essential oils.

Shirodhara is an ayurvedia treatment that is deeply relaxing using warm, herbalized oils poured in a gentle stream over the forehead. This ayurvedic procedure profoundly calms the mind, body and spirit. Shirodhara enhances blood circulation to the brain, improves memory, nourishes the hair and scalp and generally aids in the release of stress and tension. Vishesh is a vigourous, rhythmic Ayurvedic treatment using herbalized oils specific to your current imbalances.

Nasya is an ayurvedic nasal cleansing treatment, which enables you to “stop and smell the roses.”

Acupressure (no needles) is pressure applied using the thumbs and fingers to stimulate the prana (life energy), and it is used to remove pain, stress and tension.

More and more women (and men) are using these natural healing modalities to enhance the quality of their life and health.
