Frown Lines Got You Down?

Have you looked in the mirror and noticed lines or wrinkles between your eyebrows? Does this bother you? If you answered “yes” to these questions, don't panic. You're not alone and there are health professionals who can help you solve this aesthetic problem.

You're probably wondering what caused your face to develop “frown lines” between your eyebrows. There are actually several factors including age, genetics, stress/trauma, repeated facial expressions, and poor skin care (excess sun, dehydration, poor diet, smoking.) Many of these factors are often out of your control no one can alter their genetic makeup (not yet anyway) and ageing is something that affects us all. While you can help prevent “frown lines” from occurring earlier, there's no avoiding them.

So what can you do? In recent years, many patients have opted for procedures called “injectables” or “fillers”. These entail a gel-like substance that is injected beneath the skin to restore lost volume, smooth lines, and enhance facial contours. You've probably heard of Botox. Another example that has had notable success in the treatment of “frown lines”, as well as “crows feet” and forehead wrinkles, is called Xeomin.

What is Xeomin?

Xeomin, or incobotulinumtoxin, is the newest member of the Botulinum toxin family. Approved by the FDA in 2011, Xeomin can be extremely beneficial in temporarily correcting moderate to deep wrinkles. Xeomin blocks signals from the nerves to the muscles in the targeted area. These muscles essentially freeze, briefly unable to contract, allowing the associated wrinkles and facial creases to relax and smooth. Worldwide, more than 84,000 people have been treated with Xeomin.

What To Expect

Xeomin is applied using a very small needle and the procedure takes less than 30 minutes. While it is not considered painful, patients sometimes report a slight burning sensation, although this quickly fades. A topical or local anesthetic is sometimes used prior to treatment.

Your Results

It will take a few days for the first benefits to appear. After 7-10 days, the full results will become apparent. The results last 3-4 months, after which a repeat treatment can maintain the youthful look.

This procedure can be used for both men and women. If you feel that this procedure can help you, contact a certified health provider who has experience with administering Xeomin and ask for a consultation.
