Healthy You, Healthy Skin

There is a saying that you probably have seen or heard lately that goes like this, “Healthy Skin, Healthy you.” Some people wonder if that is really true.

One of the best ways to judge a person's general health is by their skin and hair. Yet, no wrinkle cream, serum, shampoo, or product added to your skin will make you instantly healthy. A product might hydrate your skin, or give a cosmetic fix to damaged hair. But, that alone will not make you healthy.

The saying should really be, “Healthy You, Healthy Skin.”

Our skin is our first line of defense for our body to keep bad things out. It is also the last choice of our body for detoxification. Our body, given the chance, will naturally detoxify itself. Yet with today's modern lifestyles, we are often consuming and being exposed to so many toxins. The end result is that our skin and hair suffers, and that may be the first symptom of more serious issues.

Many people have rashes, acne, dry skin, thinning hair, dull skin, and other symptoms without ever knowing they are due to poor nutrition or lifestyle. With simple changes, people realize the symptoms were not a skin problem, but due to the foods they eat, nutrition and lifestyle choices.

An integrative nutrition health coach (INHC) can help you determine if your chronic skin and hair conditions are caused by factors such as the foods you are eating and your lifestyle habits. Often skin conditions are caused by poor food choices, and your body trying to remove toxins from your system. Our skin regenerates quite quickly, and with proper nutrients and care, our face and skin will be the first place we can see the healing effect of proper diet and lifestyle choices.

What treatment would an INHC give for my skin or hair loss?

INHCs usually offer advice based upon your specific issues. Most often for skin and hair issues a diet including lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, healthy fats, and clean water is the first step in determining if a person is suffering from a skin problem versus the body detoxifying itself from excessive toxins. INHCs rarely prescribe medications, yet they will help you to determine if natural remedies or medications prescribed by your primary care doctor would be best for your situation.

So stop suffering with poor skin and hair, and consult an INHC to see if your symptoms could be easily fixed.
