Help For Hair Loss Causes and Solutions

Trichology is the science of the structure, function, and diseases of human hair. Clinical trichology is the diagnosis and treatment of the diseases and disorders of human hair and the scalp. Trichologists are specialists who have been specifically trained to treat hair loss and scalp conditions. Unlike medical doctors, trichologists receive training in all aspects of hair science, hair care, and hair processing.

Common hair problems may include hair loss, hair thinning, baldness (either generally or in patches), scalp conditions, scaling scalp, psoriasis, itching scalp, and excessive oiliness.

Everyone loses hair. It is normal to lose about 50-100 hairs every day. When that hair does not grow back, and you begin to see bald patches or lots of thinning, that is what is commonly referred to as “hair loss”.

Hair loss can cause great distress and frequent misunderstandings about its causes and treatment. Many conditions are caused by inherited genetic influences, such as an over-production of the male hormone testosterone.

Other factors contributing to hair loss include

Medication Some medications can damage and cause hair loss.

Tight hair braiding Pulling hair too tight can damage the hair follicle, preventing hair from growing back properly.

Chemical hair relaxers Hair relaxers can damage hair and cause hair loss.

Hair pulling Hair loss can result from a compulsive hair pulling disorder such as trichotillomania.

Poor nutrition Eating the wrong foods or getting insufficient nutrition.

Genetics or aging If your family has a history of hair loss, you are more likely to have it as well. The likelihood of hair loss increases with age.

Stress Related Hair Loss

Stress has been identified as a cause of hair loss in men and women and is also a predominant factor in the increase in women's hair loss. Chronic or acute stress has the effect of lowering the production of estrogen, and increasing stress hormones. This can then cause an increase in testosterone levels. These are powerful hormones that effect genetically targeted hair follicles which, had they been functioning properly, would have been protected by higher estrogenic hormone levels.

If you have problems with baldness or hair loss, a hair loss treatment plan can be tailored to suit your personal needs and budget and improve your self-esteem and confidence.
