InstaLift and the 5 R’s Of In-Office Facial Rejuvenation

With the advent of digital imaging, our understanding of aging became more refined, as studies of aging demonstrated that our face does not simply droop. We learned that as we age, our faces change in three ways it descends, deflates, and suffers textural changes.

Consequently, facelifts with adjuvant fat grafting and skin resurfacing have become the standard of care, the most comprehensive means of facial rejuvenation, capable of producing a youthful, refreshed countenance.

However, over the past decade, plastic surgeons have seen more reluctance on the part of prospective patients to undergo extensive surgical rejuvenation. More and more patients are opting for office based minimally invasive procedures. But the goals remain the same, to address all of the components of facial aging.

Our ability to address signs of aging with minimally invasive procedures fortunately has improved dramatically over the last few years, with new products and techniques.

We can now develop individualized treatment plans and design a comprehensive approach to facial rejuvenation. We can Relax, Revolumize, Resurface, Reduce, and now Reposition. With the tools at our disposal, youthful natural rejuvenation can be achieved.

Botox, dysport, and xeomin can be used to relax muscles reducing lines and wrinkles attributable to movement, such as the “11’s” on the brow or crow’s feet.

The Juvederm and Restylane family of hyaluronic acid products, as well as Bellafill, Radiesse, Sculptra, and fat grafting (to name a few) can revolumize areas that have deflated with age, restoring volume over the mid face and cheek bones, as well as softening nasolabial folds and marionette lines.

Crepey, wrinkled skin can be resurfaced with lasers, peels, or dermabrasion, revealing smooth skin and a more uniform complexion. Finally, stubborn fat deposits in the neck can be reduced by melting the fat with injections of Kybella or freezing it through CoolSculpting.

Up until now, however, plastic surgeons have not had a way to reposition or elevate soft tissue without an operative procedure. The Instalift is an FDA approved non-surgical facelift procedure done in the office setting requiring only local anesthesia. Dissolvable sutures are placed within the facial soft tissue.

The stitches are laced with tiny biodegradable cones that lift, reposition, and anchor the soft tissue. They can be used to elevate the cheeks, soften nasolabial folds and marionette lines, and even smoothen the jawline. The results last around 18 months but the cost of the procedure is really just a fraction of an operative facelift.

If you are interested is lessening signs of facial aging, see an expert at both surgical and non-surgical rejuvenation, and make certain that they are certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
