Millions of people notice facial imperfections, sun spots, rosacea, and other problems as they grow older, and some skin problems happen even at a relatively young age. People think about ways to handle the problems and especially a way to do it easily, with little or no down time.
Well, now you can. You can maintain your skin's youthful appearance and get rid of several skin problems, even acne, easily without downtime. Treat yourself to an Intense Pulse Light (IPL) facial a non-ablative treatment using high intensity pulses of light to treat different skin care conditions by delivering light to the dermis (the deeper layer of skin).
Unlike a laser treatment, a pulsed light treatment can deliver hundreds of colors of light at one time. With its wavelengths ranging between 500 and 1200 nanometers, the longer wavelengths penetrate deeper into the skin while shorter wavelengths treat the more superficial targets.
Treatments should be administered by a professional who will customize the settings to deliver the best wavelength in order to match the depth of the specific target and avoid the areas that are not to be treated. An IPL facial treatment does not damage the superficial areas of the skin and there is usually absolutely no downtime.
Specific problems that can be treated include vascular lesions, including broken and dilated facial capillaries, rosacea, fine lines, pigmentation disorders and acne. Treatments are usually done in a series (3 to 4 week intervals) or as part of an overall skin rejuvenation maintenance program.
An IPL facial may also be used for spot treatments, focusing on one section, for example, broken capillaries around the nose area. Gradual changes will occur over the course of the treatments. Following the treatment, production of collagen and elastin, (two of the building blocks of smoother, younger skin), is stimulated. The result is more even skin tone and color, along with decreased redness, resulting in smoother and younger looking skin.
Even though there is no downtime after an IPL treatment, proper sunscreen is mandatory following your treatment, and a proper homecare regimen will produce the best results.
With all the great benefits of IPL treatments, they are not a substitute for ablative laser treatments (CO2 Laser Resurfacing) or procedures that treat sagging skin, deep wrinkles, or deep acne scars. IPL is most suitable for lighter complexions due to a possible increase of pigmentation with darker complexions when using light therapies.
