Taking Care Of Yourself After an Accident

Many people call a lawyer after they have delayed seeking treatment after an accident. Their reason is usually that they aren't sure about the insurance money situation. They don't want to seek treatment until they know that the other person's insurance will pay for it or they are concerned that their own insurance won't cover it.

Let me tell you that procrastinating about seeing the doctor after an accident is one of the worst things you can do. Here are some very good reasons for that.

The first is very basic if you're not getting treatment, then you're not getting better. You should never jeopardize your health while waiting for the payment options to show up. You risk aggravating current injuries, sustaining new ones, and suffering from a long list of complications. Only proper medical treatment will help you recover on time with lower risk.

The second reason is a tricky one if your injury gets worse because you waited to see the doctor, you likely won't be able to recover monetary compensation from either insurance company because you failed to properly take care of yourself. The insurer won't be interested in covering complications, especially the other person's company, since you were the one who personally took on that risk, rather than seeking proper treatment.

You are then putting a potential claim and/or lawsuit at risk, since it will become much more difficult to prove what was directly caused by the accident and what was caused by your own negligence. Seeing a doctor right after an accident ensures the documentation of your injuries, which will be the foundation of your claim.

The next step in the process of personal wellbeing is making sure that you follow the doctor's orders. This means attending physical therapy sessions regularly and on time, as designated by your physician. You should follow treatment plans religiously and keep records on everything.

The simple truth is that you need to be looking out for yourself. Don't wait to hire an attorney or to hear back from the other person's insurance company. After all, both of those things could take some time and getting better shouldn't be pushed back because of it.
