Not All Dentures Are Created Equal

We all know that a revitalized smile can increase self-confidence and enhance feelings of well-being. Every year thousands of people whiten and straighten their teeth, get veneers and bonding. However, these options are not available to adult denture wearers who often feel left out of the cosmetic “loop”. Denture wearers often resign themselves to living with ill-fitting, average-looking, “stamped-out” dentures, but times have changed.

Recent advancements in denture technology have lead to the creation of a new category of dentures customized cosmetic dentures. These dentures are scientifically engineered and designed specifically for each patient. They look and feel more like the patients real teeth because they are created using very specific measurements that take into account the patients mouth and individual facial dimensions. This is most accurately accomplished through the use of the AccuLiner system and AccuLiner articulator.

What is the AccuLiner system?

The AccuLiner system is a unique technology used for fabricating full dentures to fit and function in a superior manner. Using a series of detailed measurements the dentist can create dentures that are neuromuscularly and craniosacrally balanced. In other words, the dentures are aligned with your individual anatomy so that they fit, feel and function more like your natural teeth.

How is this system different?

What sets this technology apart from traditional denture technology is that it is based on recent research showing that dentures look and work best when the teeth are set parallel to the base of the skull. This is achieved through the use of the AccuLiner articulator, an instrument that allows the dentist to relate the teeth to the base of the patients skull, using specific anatomical landmarks of the jaw.

In addition, highly specialized instruments are used to record the patients unique measurements. The papillameter is used to measure the length of the lip from the gum or top of the ridge, which enables the dentist to set the patients teeth at the proper length to look natural. The alameter is used to determine the natural curve of the front six teeth, which make up the most visible portion of the patients smile.

Do I get to design my smile?

Absolutely. Some patients want to recreate the smile they once had, so they bring pictures of themselves. Others want to create a whole new look and can choose from a wide variety of “smile designs”. Size, length, color as well as subtle, natural differences in the shapes of individual teeth are taken into account when designing your smile. This ensures a comfortable, functional, beautiful, natural looking denture.

Dont settle for second best. Denture wearers, like all dental patients, deserve the best dentistry has to offer. Ask your dentist about customized cosmetic dentures.
