Put Your Best Face Forward

It’s a fact of life each of us is aging. Although each person is unique in their own way, your face is usually the first place that will show signs of aging. The outer layer of skin (called the epidermis) works hard to protect us from uncontrollable elements the sun, heat, and cold.

Over time, the environment’s harmful effects will begin to show on the outer layer of skin. These damaging effects are treatable, however, through the use of microdermabrasion treatments.

Microdermabrasions have been used for many years by doctors and estheticians around the world to treat damaged facial skin. These treatments have been shown to help reduce the signs of aging, as well as helping to reduce and treat scars, acne scars, uneven skin tones, and enlarged pores.

There are many other available methods of treating damaged skin, such as glycolic peels, salicylic peels, and TCA peels. Microdermabrasions, however, are usually the safest and most tolerated of all the available procedures. There are no contraindications with this treatment; therefore, it is safe to use on all skin types both male and female and all skin colors, including Asian and African American skins. The intensity of the treatment is controlled to make the procedure comfortable, safe, and enjoyable for the patient.

The machine used in this treatment releases very fine crystals (called aluminum dioxide) through a hand piece that is precisely stroked across the face to exfoliate the skin. With each stroke, the crystals are suctioned into a disposal canister, creating an effect which helps to plump the face. Each session takes 30-45 minutes. Most people can do this during their lunch hour and go back to work feeling relaxed and rejuvenated with no down time.

Repeated treatments produce more visible, lasting results. The initial series of treatments (usually 4-6 sessions) are usually done 1-2 weeks apart. Over time, this repeated process stimulates the production of a new layer of skin cells, bringing with it an increased level of collagen and elastin, which further improves the skin’s appearance. In order to maintain the initial results, monthly treatments are recommended following the initial series of treatments.

Although the forces of aging cannot be stopped, you can certainly help your skin’s appearance and treat the damaging effects of the environment with microdermabrasion treatments.

You can begin to put your best face forward today.
