Reiki As a Complementary Medicine

Reiki is practiced in various hospitals by practitioners and doctors; taught by Reiki Master Teachers in various settings including colleges; and it is even advertised at your local yoga studio. But what exactly is it?

Reiki is a complementary or alternative healing method using universal life force energy that’s channeled through a certified practitioner to the recipient, and is a wonderful addition to traditional health care.

By using various hand placements on or near the body, a Reiki practitioner treats the client on a mind, body, spirit level. This means that the energy can help with a wide range of conditions as it works on the whole person. On an emotional level, it can help alleviate anxiety, depression, addictions, and increase self-worth. Physically, it may help treat underlying causes of some chronic diseases like fibromyalgia, relax the muscles, and relieve pain at least temporarily, in some cases long term. Additionally, on a spiritual level, some people report gaining a deeper clarity into their existence as well a stronger connection to their faith. Reiki harmonizes with other healing practices, such as acupuncture, massage, meditation, and is meant to complement traditional medical procedures and practices, not to replace them.

The way Reiki energy heals can best be described by using Eastern Medicines philosophy, which is that all ailments stem from various forms of imbalances within individual energetic fields. If left untreated, the energetic imbalance will begin to manifest as a physical problem or sickness in the body. The Reiki energy then works in a manner that it flows to the problem areas to help remove the imbalances and allow for the restorative flow of life force energy within the individual.

Recipients generally report becoming very relaxed during a session, much like after receiving a massage. This relaxation can remain several days up to a week from a single session, even longer with repeated sessions, adding to an overall increased sense of well-being.

Additionally, some practitioners may combine the powerful benefits of Reiki with other forms of complimentary healing techniques. These may include crystal therapy, guided imagery, sound/vibrational therapy, and use of color therapy.

With Reiki becoming more increasingly popular due to its many benefits, it’s now easier than ever to find the right local practitioner for you.
