Remove Your Stubborn Fat

In today’s world, looking and feeling good means having a fit, well-proportioned body. However, sometimes even a strict diet or a disciplined exercise program can’t conquer stubborn areas of excess fat. Liposuction provides a welcome solution to this problem. The good news is that the options for fat removal are better than ever.

CoolSculpting®

New technology allows non-surgical removal of stubborn areas of fat. Fat cells freeze faster than other tissues when cooled. Cryolypolysis is the principle behind CoolSculpting. Sit back and read a book or watch TV as this new technology freezes away unwanted fat.

Each area takes approximately 35 minutes to treat. A specialized device covers the desired treatment area and results in a 25% reduction of fat. The fat cells gradually die and are reabsorbed by the body. Patients can expect to see a difference in 4-6 weeks, and full results in about three months. No anesthesia or surgery is required.

Liposuction

Everyone is familiar with liposuction, the “gold standard” for fat removal. Laser liposuction and power-assisted liposuction remain the most popular choices.

SmartLipo® is the most well-known laser liposuction device. This method utilizes medical-grade lasers to create a light beam powerful enough to rupture fat cells, melting the fat without traumatizing nearby blood vessels, nerves, and other soft tissues. The fat is released into the tissues and reabsorbed by the body.

To perform liposuction, one or more small incisions are made near the area to be suctioned. The doctor then places a slim, hollow tube called a cannula through the incision so that its tip penetrates the underlying fat.

The cannula is connected by flexible tubing to a suction pump. The cannula then must move back and forth through the fat, which is vacuumed into the tube. Previously, the cannula was moved manually, which required more pressure – impacting comfort and recovery times. Power-assisted liposuction (PAL) is a new and important technology that has dramatically improved the procedure.

PAL uses a device with reciprocal movement that facilitates movement of the cannula through the tissue. The vibration loosens the fat cells so that they can be suctioned away gently with less trauma to the surrounding tissues.

Advantages of PAL compared to other liposuction procedures include improved safety, shorter procedure time, less bruising and swelling, less discomfort, and greater precision.

All of these advantages combine to make PAL a major advancement in aesthetic surgery for the permanent removal of fat.

Power-assisted lipsosuction can be used to slim the hips and thighs, flatten the abdomen, shape the calves and ankles or eliminate a double chin. It is most commonly recommended for men and women of normal weight who simply want to improve their body contour. Although liposuction is not a treatment for obesity, it can permanently alter body proportion and is sometimes the only way to eliminate fat deposits that do not respond to diet and exercise – making liposuction a true PAL to many.
