So, You’re Having a Baby

Becoming parents is one of the most amazing and frightening experiences in life. Even as children we grow up planning to find just the right partner and start our own family. Now that childhood dream is becoming a reality.

What do I do next? This is a very common response. You are now responsible for another person a little person that needs you for everything. The best place to start is a visit to your OB-GYN doctor. Educate yourself on how to care for your body, which is now growing your future rocket scientist, ballerina, Nobel Prize winning scientist or whatever dream you have for your baby.

Don’t panic, try to relax and enjoy your pregnancy. During the early weeks, your baby is developing very rapidly even without your awareness of their presence. Good health habits are important to begin before conception. But, if you are already pregnant, there is no time like the present to modify your life style to be baby friendly.

Having a Healthy Pregnancy Includes

Regular visits to your OB-GYN.

Eating a well-balanced diet. You only need 300 extra calories per day to grow a baby. Don’t forget your pre-natal vitamins and plenty of water every day.

Balancing exercise and rest.

Learning about the many changes your body will undergo during pregnancy.

Prepare by adapting your home for a safe environment for baby.

If you or your partner smokes stop now. Infants that live in a smoking household are five times more likely to die of SIDS.

Plan for your birth experience. Know all your options for comfort in labor.

Taking a childbirth education class is an excellent way to prepare for the big day.
