Spring Forward With Acupuncture

Spring is the season of new possibilities. Look at the growth that occurs in your own backyard: spring bulbs, dormant in the ground during the winter, push up green stems then colorful flowers. Leaves bud on trees.  Birds begin to sing. This potential for change is expressed in human beings as well. Often in spring people find a desire to become creative in their lives, move forward with projects and look at possibilities for their future. Many people notice a tendency to be more easily frustrated or angered during the season of spring. This also reflects what is happening in nature. The bursting forth of plants which push up through the ground with a forcefulness is identical to the rising energy in a person.

There are acupuncture points that specifically support healthy movement of the spring season in each of us. Located on the foot, these points are the epitome of spring. They enhance our ability to step forward in life. Each of the 361 acupuncture points on the body has a name. The “Spring Points” are named Great Esteem and A Footstep Forward.

Great Esteem speaks of the respect and honor we have for ourselves and our growth. Movement in a forward direction requires honoring where we have been, having gratitude for our past that has brought us to this point of change.

A Footstep Forward speaks to the ability to carry out the plans that have been made. It is as if the winter deadwood has been cleared from the path and you can take the steps necessary to continue your life journey. We can leave our worries, fears and frustrations behind just as the unneeded brush is cleared from the forest or old cornstalks are removed from the field before spring plowing and planting.

Spring is the season associated with the element of Wood. Plants that survive best in the winds of spring are those which are most flexible. Supporting this element in a person strengthens their ability to be more flexible and enhances their ability to adjust to the changes that life brings.
