The Healing Powers of Positivity

Looking on the bright side of life really is a very positive attribute. Can you imagine why? Optimists have less chance of being afflicted with heart attacks or strokes and are more likely to eat a healthier diet and partake in exercise regularly. With following these few steps you will actually be promoting longer life as well.

Now, being an optimist doesn’t mean you ignore the stress of daily life. It simply means that when things happen, you don’t blame yourself unnecessarily. If you face a challenge or obstacle, you’re more likely to see it as temporary or fixable, which allows you to learn, grow and be productive.

One way to consider in making your life more fulfilling yourself is to look into ways you can be a help or service to others. If you think about it, putting the well-being of others before our own without expecting anything in return, stimulates the reward centers of the brain. Those feel-good chemicals flood our system, producing a sort of “helper’s high”.

Let’s note the physical benefits of having a positive mindset while helping others:

• Volunteering and other good deeds reduces stress or tightness; physical aches and pains which reduces the risk for cognitive impairment

• Volunteering minimizes stress and lowers the chance of depression

• Longer life spans

Even if you have only a little time to offer, that’s ok, just the act of giving your time makes your effort meaningful and more special to all concerned. Good relationships keep us happier and healthier too. You don’t have to be in a committed relationship or have scores of pals to get this benefit. Instead, it’s the quality of the relationship that matters.

The Benefits of Having Purpose…

Finding a sense of purpose contributes greatly to well-being and a longer, happier life. A sense of purpose will come from being part of something bigger than yourself. Religion, family, and social interactions also increases meaning in our lives. Treat yourself with kindness and respect, and avoid self-criticism. Make time for your hobbies and favorite projects, or broaden your horizons, travel for example. Engage in a daily crossword puzzle, plant a garden, take dance lessons, learn to play an instrument or become fluent in another language.

Before you know it, your spirit is lighter and happier and it was all due to being purpose driven, being around family, attending church and rallying with the positive people in your life that love and care about you. You can then look back over your journey in life and see how blessed you truly are to be loved, happy and full of life.
