The Liquid Gold

Liquid gold: A great new term in the world of plastic surgery used to describe body fat, removed by liposuction and injected into desired regions of the body to enhance volume.  The procedural term is lipofilling, fat grafting or fat transfer and the harvested fat, or liquid gold can be injected into the breast, face, or buttocks. The result is enhanced breasts size, rejuvenated and youthful faces and voluptuous buttocks.

Liquid Gold Butt Augmentation: Butt augmentation by fat injections has consistently proven to be a reproducible, safe and cost effective alternative to implants and dermal fillers.

Using your own tissue for augmentation offers a practical benefit and is on its way to replacing artificial implants entirely. Body fat is harvested with liposuction allowing for customized body shaping by contouring the areas around the buttocks and contributing to a more sculptured profile. Fat is removed from the stomach, lower back, sides and thighs. The harvested fat is “the liquid gold”, handled carefully to preserve and refine it and simultaneously re-injected into the buttocks. It is an operation of addition and subtraction where fat is taken out from undesirable areas and injected into desired areas resulting in a beautiful buttock shape.

Liquid Gold Breast Augmentation: Using patient’s own body fat or “liquid gold” and grafting it into the breast has been used as a good alternative for breast reconstruction. Its use in cosmetic breast augmentation has increased in popularity with very good results. In both approaches, the need for more research is still required.

The resulting volume increase in breast size achieved with fat grafting into the breast is not huge and works best on patients looking for a natural looking breast after breast augmentation.

Fat injections into the breast can also be combined with breast augmentation with implants in the case of a thin patient or patients with chest wall deformities allowing for smoother contouring.

Liquid Gold Facelift: The use of fat harvested by liposuction to enhance the face received a great boost with the discovery of stem cell in the aspirated fat. Although fat transfer to the face for correction of facial scars has been around, its use to rejuvenate and enhance facial volume is becoming the procedure of choice. Facial fat transfer can be used alone to reduce the signs of facial aging, folds, tear troughs, and lip enhancement.

It can also be combined with a surgical facelift concentrating on the areas which are difficult to address with surgery. Recent research credits the procedure to an improvement in skin texture and improved collagen production.

It is important to know that the operation of fat grafting, fat transfer or lipofilling can have many names, but its success really relies on your surgeon’s expertise. It is a technique dependent procedure with an outcome that depends on the technical skills of your plastic surgeon.
