Over time, a person with an increased sympathetic tone may likely experience many problems. Muscle tissue can become unhealthy and dysfunctional due to tension caused by stress. We are also more subject to systemic diseases as a result of a lack of oxygen in the blood and stagnant movement of bodily fluid. Shallow breathing also inhibits detoxification of the body. Concentration and memory are effected by the lack of time to rest. It is impossible for our bodies to rest and recover while in a state of increased sympathetic tone.
