Yoga For Anxiety and Depression

Anxiety and depression are common in our lives. They are normal and helpful reactions to certain stressful and demanding situations. When anxiety and depression occur too often and lasts too long, they may then take the form of a disease. Anxiety and depression can last for days, months and years. When anxiety persists, it becomes imperative to see a professional in the field of anxiety and depression. People are becoming more depressed and suffer from anxiety more and more with the current state of the economy. People are losing jobs, homes, families, health care and that is a major cause of depression and anxiety.

Anxiety can be helpful when it is a response to danger and when we take necessary precautions to adapt in a healthy way. However, panic, and intense anxiety are the inability to cope and adapt to demanding situations. Anxiety is the fight or flight response to situations.

Depression is another form of responding to emotionally demanding situations, depending on the seriousness of the situation. Depression, in the mild form, takes you into your inner being and opens up the inner wisdom that helps you to move towards a mature personality. When depression becomes severe, it can lead to a chemical imbalance that may lead to medication.

Anxiety is an expression of fear. When anxiety lasts for a long time, it causes a persistent fear and excessive alertness that may lead to not being able to sleep. It can cause high blood pressure, shortness of breath, sweating, restlessness, palpitations and more. When these symptoms continue and become chronic, energy is drained that causes mental and physical exhaustion, tiredness, and inefficiency at home and work. Anxiety and depression will cause you to lose control over your mind-body equilibrium resulting in an imbalance in the chemistry of the brain. Anxiety neurosis is manifested speed and depression is unmanifested speed.

Yoga helps with the imbalances in the brain caused from the mental states of anxiety and depression, allowing you to gain control over your mind by teaching you systemic training that will allow the mind to switch off to silence and deep rest. This keeps you from getting lost in anxiety and/or depression.

Medication amounts can sometimes be reduced when you begin yoga. Yoga may help you taper off your medication to very small doses.

With the capacity to master your mind and emotions with regular yoga practices, along with the right understanding of the purpose and meaning of your life, you can come out of the need for medication.

Live until you die. Let go of your past blunders and missteps in life; remember that your blunders in life have helped you come to a better place in life. You are ready for a change. Change begins now.

Get out of the house more, take free vacations walking, parks, picnics or go to the beach, even if you don’t like the water. Water is a healing meditation. Visit friends and family, forgive and move on. Forgive even if some one else causes you pain.

Namaste.
