Take Care Of Your Skin

Many people have complaints about their skin. These include concerns about acne, hypersensitivity, pigmentation, oily skin, dry skin, premature ageing, etc. Serious problems may require the help of a skin care professional, but we are often able to address these concerns on our own, with the help of a good skin care regimen.

It's always a good idea to have a basic understanding of how the skin operates. Skin consists of three layers. The innermost layer is the subcutaneous tissue this contains fat cells, which insulate the body. The middle layer is the dermis, containing the connective tissue. The outermost layer, the epidermis, protects the inner skin from environmental contaminants. Skin cells continuously travel from the innermost part to the surface, with the dead skin cells flaking off at the top.

Cells in the epidermis thin out over time, and less collagen is produced, causing skin to sag and wrinkle. This is an effect of aging. While skin care products may not be able to erase all of your wrinkles, they may be able to help prevent some of these effects from occurring. Sunscreen is also a good idea, as UVA and UVB radiation from sunlight will thin the epidermis even more, contributing to a faster breakdown of collagen.

Some skin problems like acne are the result of excess dead skin cells, oil, and bacteria on the skin's surface. This is why hygiene is of utmost importance. Functions of the skin are disturbed when it is excessively dirty. A good quality cleanser will help remove dirt, makeup, excess oil, built-up toxins, and other pollutants, which clog our pores.

However, washing our skin too much or using harsher soaps will wash away the natural oils we need to skin our skin healthy, resulting in dry skin. This is why it's important to choose a cleanser that is best suited for your skin's unique characteristics it's often a good idea to use a cleanser with a moisturizer to combat the drying agents of the cleanser. Vitamin E is often included in good skin care products, as it helps moisturize the skin and maintains elasticity.

Proper skin care takes effort, and your skin care regimen should be followed every day for optimal results. If you're unsure of what products to choose for your daily cleaning/moisturizing, you may want to try Rx Skin Therapy a line which offers products that are formulated for your specific skin type (available at select pharmacies.) Some pharmacies are even able to customize and personalize these skin care products through an on-site compounding pharmacy. This is a great way to ensure that you're taking the proper steps to achieve healthy and radiant skin.
